Dryer Vent Duct Cleaning

Do clogged dryer ducts present a fire hazard? Did you have your dryer duct cleaned this year?

If you are like most of our customers, you are concerned about the risk of fire caused by lint buildup in the dryer duct and in the dryer itself. Cleaning the dryer ducts will greatly reduce this risk of fire, giving you peace of mind. It also cuts down on the time it takes to dry each load of laundry, saving you money on your electricity bill.

If you notice any of the following, it is time to schedule a cleanup:

  • The air outlet flap barely opens when the dryer is on.
  • Clothes are damp or warmer than usual at the end of the cycle.
  • The laundry room feels warmer or more humid than usual.
  • The laundry takes an unusually long time to dry.
  • The dryer produces air flow, but not heat.
  • The outside of the dryer is unusually hot.
  • It has been over a year since you last cleaned the dryer duct.

Is It Necessary To Clean The Dryer Ducts?

Most homeowners forget to include drying duct cleaning in their list of annual maintenance services. The cost of cleaning the drying ducts can pay off in just 3 to 6 months thanks to the energy savings achieved. Just because your dryer seems to be working properly doesn’t mean you have to wait to get it cleaned.

Drying ducts are one of those “hidden” maintenance items that are often overlooked. The old adage “out of sight, out of heart” is very true when it comes to cleaning drying ducts. Unfortunately, neglecting this simple annual maintenance can have harmful and even fatal consequences in some cases. Dryer lint is extremely flammable. To prevent dryer and exhaust duct fires, it is imperative to clean the lint filter after each drying cycle and have the exhaust duct cleaned by a professional each year. Clothes dryers cause more household fires than wood-burning fireplaces.

Did you know that your clothes dryer is hands down the most expensive appliance to run in the whole house, right after your air conditioner! A vent clogged with lint will certainly make the dryer run longer and harder, costing you money in the form of higher electric bills. The longer it works, the more it costs. When the exhaust duct is blocked, your dryer will overheat and damage internal parts such as heating elements or heat detector safety switches and/or expensive electronic boards.
